I’m Tineke, photography is my great passion
it inspires me, gives me energy
Interested in other cultures
Initially, I photographed mostly during my holidays. There was nothing better than travelling the world with my camera and getting to know other cultures. I tried to capture the characteristics of a culture or country. Indigenous peoples, other cultures, traditions and customs, daily life, what makes life different. Not staging, but getting to know and capture the other person in their natural environment.
interested in the story behind
You don't have to travel far to be engaged with the story behind people. I find it a challenge to explore a subject through photographs and capture it in a narrative way. For instance, I made a series on what it means to live with noncongenital brain injury.
WITH AN EYE FOR DETAIL
More and more often I went out with my camera. Shapes, structures, rhythms, lines and colours fascinate me. No matter where you are, if you have an eye for them, you see them everywhere. In nature, architecture, a museum, in markets.
But my favourite places are the frayed edges of a city, industrial heritage, abandoned buildings. The raw and unpolished character appeals to me.
Beauty is everywhere
Gradually, I developed further in abstract photography. I am always looking for hidden beauty, focusing on shapes, structures, rhythms, lines and colours. I try to transform the visible world into an unexpected image.
Sometimes it is still very recognisable what the subject is, but it may well be that you don't see it right away. I find the latter perhaps even more interesting.
